Excavation of a 1763 historic home’s backyard in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The home is on the Black History Trail in Portsmouth, and was early on owned by a Portsmouth pottery maker. On the right is what we found to be an early coin scale, which were used prior to the establishment of a US Mint to weigh bits. The home is owned by a local fine antiques dealer who had an original coin scale in his collection.
